Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of the website. Accessing a page, reading its content, or submitting a search indicates agreement with them. Anyone who does not agree must discontinue use of the site.

NO FCRA USE. This is a private website, unaffiliated with government. The site and its advertising partners do not provide information for decisions about credit, employment, tenancy, insurance, or any other matter regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The site only guides readers to Marin County and California criminal-record resources; it is neither a private investigation service nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference site operates independently of all government offices. It neither keeps official criminal records nor retrieves records, performs official checks, or submits filings for users.

Its guides identify Marin County sources such as the Sheriff's Records Division and Marin Superior Court, along with the California Department of Justice and California Megan's Law Website. Certain pages also link to independent research providers.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of this website is conditioned on an agreement not to:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information reached through this site may be used for harassment, stalking, threats, intimidation, or discrimination. California Penal Code section 290.46 specifically restricts use of information from the California Megan's Law Website and provides consequences for misuse. Registry access is intended for public-safety awareness, never vigilantism or unlawful discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the FCRA and do not produce background checks, credit reports, or other consumer reports. Our advertising partners likewise do not offer these tools for evaluating employment, housing, insurance, or credit. Information on this site or reached through a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A check used for an FCRA-regulated purpose must be obtained from a legally authorized provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

The site provides general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how Marin County procedures or California rules concerning a charge, conviction, warrant, or expungement apply to a particular matter. That guidance should come from a California-licensed attorney.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are offered "as is," without any promise that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges may be filed or dismissed, and records may later be corrected, sealed, or expunged. Updates can therefore create unavoidable gaps. Content here is never an official statement by a court, sheriff, or government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

External links include sheriff and court resources, California agencies, legal-aid providers, and independent search services. We do not control those destinations and accept no responsibility for their content, privacy practices, prices, or availability. Their own terms should be reviewed before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Marin County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. The material may not be copied, adapted, distributed, or used to create derivative work without written authorization.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for damages arising from use of the website, including reliance on information presented here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, demands, and proceedings arising from your use of the website or violation of these terms, including associated legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law. Proceedings concerning use of the website must be filed in a court within California.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms at any time, and a revision becomes effective when posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be modified only to the extent required to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
